Letter

Disclaimer: Any resemblance of original characters to any real persons, living or dead is purely coincidence.

Something is eating me up and I can’t take it anymore. My name is Lance Skies and this is my story.

College life was a terrible experience for me. Starting year as a freshman, I was being bullied by the upper level, making fuss of my hair, tossing around my bag and getting my allowance. One of them is Kian Danes, a handsome and happy- go- lucky guy who wants nothing but pleasure without knowing that he is already hurting someone. He was very smart and talented; he plays piano, he joined student council and elected as president. It was such a nightmare for me who was being bullied by the student council president. I know it’s like a fight that I wouldn’t win.

Several months have passed and they seemed to be in a good mood, they avoid doing things that they used to do to me. And I think that this is a good chance to send a letter in the dean’s office about it, for me to have justice. But that was just I thought; instead Kian received the letter and he accused me of vandalism and drinking alcohol inside our campus. After that incident, I was suspended for 7days and immediately put into student kick-out warning list.

My resilience took for almost a year from pain and pressure, from what happened to me. And I think it was worth it, I’ve studied harder and as a result; my colleagues in our college was impressed with my academic performance, resulting for me to be elected as president of our college and one of the student council officers. Now Kian and I were not so far away from each other. After several days of election I can notice their humble actions. They have also stopped bullying me and their threat was gone, they also lifted the kick-out list from me. After the first meeting and acknowledgement of newly elected officers, Kian talked to me privately in our office and he looked so worried. “You know Lance, I know that I did something wrong to you and I hope that you will forgive me, besides were on the same stone as I am stepping in, so let’s cooperate with one other. Kian said to me sincerely. I was shocked by his words and I was about to laugh him when I told him that; “Is there any other choice I could pick besides from forgiving you?” Jokily I asked.

The next day friends from my freshman year were amazed; they cannot believe their eyes as I walk through the hall with Kian. “WA…waiiiit!! Is that Kian and Lance? Whoa?! That’s impossible! Shocked they said. “But I thought that there were enemies!” Other insists.”Well nothing is permanent” Other replied. We were walking halfway out in the campus as I had to go in the guards’ post. Kian and other officers were headed home.

Kian’s favorite hobby is to play tennis and so am I. We play together every weekend wherein I did not see her girlfriend even for once. Out of curiosity I asked him. “Hey! Kian?! Why didn’t you make your girlfriend come around?” I asked while hitting the tennis ball. “She was busy studying and doing chores every weekend Lance!” He replied while hitting the tennis ball.

We continued to play tennis every weekend until he wanted to share something of his talent to me; and that is to play piano. My weekend was so great; I mean I can play my favorite sport which is tennis and this time I’m going to learn to play a piano. Just as planned in the weekend Kian taught me to play piano, we talk for awhile before we start. “Kian, how long have you been playing piano?” I asked “You know Lance I have been playing piano since I was 11 years old, my mother; who is a music teacher taught me how to play a piano before she died.” Kian said. “I’m sorry about that.” I replied whispering. Before he says again I prompt him with a question. “Kian is there anything you want to wish for? I mean, look at you, you have the guts the talent, you’re smart and everything that you want you get it and I want to know if there’s any.” Curiously I asked. “There’s nothing I can wish for; except for my girlfriend, I want to be her husband, working for my wife and my kids; 1 boy and 1 girl, seeing her smile and hearing her voice every morning.” Proudly he said. “Um, so you really want that huh? Confusingly I asked. “Don’t get the wrong idea Lance; Love is not a possession if you try to possess it you will lose it.” He replied

Years have passed Kian was already a senior and I was a junior, I was the president and Kian is the vice president of the student council, our tandem was so influential that the other colleges voted for us even though we didn’t do any campaign paraphernalia. Our university topped the country’s thesis contest, and because of that, our university awards us as most outstanding students of the year for several years. For me this year is the best I achieve being a topped notch student, hailed and respected by everyone.

I was about to buy a coffee in the cafeteria, when someone caught my attention. It was Kian’s girlfriend named Mimi Summers; she was actually the reason behind Kian’s angel –like changing attitudes just before I got bullied by Kian. She inspired Kian to be a good person for she knew what Kian’s doing outside the campus. Mimi was a simple girl, she has brown eyes, black hair with fair complexion and she was happy person. I used to see Kian and Mimi hanging out in the cafeteria every afternoon, where Mimi got a cup coffee while eating egg sandwich same as Kian. They seem loved each other. And I’m truly happy about that. Because of Mimi, Kian’s life was so right, Mimi, Kian and I were used to do charity works and eco-concern fun runs. That was so right not until my friend Tom called.

A minute before the outreach program held in the church which Mimi, Kian and I used to go. Mimi and I were waiting for Kian because he has the goods for the less fortunate as my friend Tom called. Thin; he was like nobody in the class, Mr. Weirdo, son of a car mechanic that’s Tom. Tom fitchner is my batch mate, I met him from my freshman days and yes you’re right he also experienced the bully days of Kian which is the most worst of all I’ve ever known. He experienced being beaten half-dead. He was confined in the hospital for almost 1week and the reason of him was being sick not being beaten. I was surprised to hear his voice in the phone; “Hey! Lance! How ya doin’ man?” happily he said. “Nah, It was so good” I replied. “Oh, how was Kian? IS HE DEADD!?!?!?!?! NYAHAHAHAHAH! Crazily and evilly he asked. Because of my nervous I end up the call and I called Kian.*phone ringing**phone ringing*(Kian answered the phone) “Hey dude, it’s me Lance where are now? We’ve been waiting you for so long” Worried I asked. “Hey Lance, t …… …………….. .. . ….. ……….. …..” he wishes. (Call ended)

Kian Danes was found dead riding a jaguar, he’s car was a total wreck. He was heading straight in the highway when he found out there people at his front view, he turn left lane which results for him to collide with a full speed truck, statement of the witnesses.

It was just a matter of seconds while I was talking to him before he turned the car.

“Hey Lance, the car’s breaks won’t work. If I would not turn to left there are many people will be hurt or die because of me. Well if this is the payment of my wrong doings I’ll gladly accept it, take care Mimi and please don’t tell anyone about this. Let this be an accident. Thanks dude. Goodbye” he wishes. (Call ended)

After months of courting, Mimi she answered me with a yes. It was 7th death anniversary of Kian I’m on a relationship with Mimi, and she seems to be happy with me although I know that somehow I cannot be the Kian Danes, Mimi used to love. 3 days before our wedding she was diagnosed for a cancer in her ovary. I know for somehow that Mimi cannot bear a child it’s actually frustrating and yet I smiled.

“I’ll love you no matter what happen; even though you’ll be incapacitating to bear a child, don’t cry. I’m here for you always”. With high hopes I said.

Months have passed lies become more often, I asked myself; how could I possibly live with this woman who is so honest that which I cannot give her the truth behind the accident? Can I live with a lie? Living in a lie? And the hardest part here is that; do I really love her? Or isn’t the sympathy that keeps me going? There are so many questions and yet I haven’t found the answer. It’s the 5th month of our relationship; I’ve decided to leave her for good in order for me to create myself and for her to be better. I know how hard it is but I should and one thing that I can promise is that being a friend of Kian is not a lie. I’ll leave this letter and if someone reads this I hope you will tell the truth from Mimi Summers.
